Richard Taylor was born in 1973 and is from Woolston nr. Southampton. He started playing the cornet at an early age and worked his way down the sections until he found he was most suited to playing trombone at the age of 18.  He currently plays with several local brass bands and also in a German Oom-Pah band 'Die Blaskappell' touring extensively with them.

Since leaving school he has gained a Degree in Building Services and Environmental Engineering at the University of Liverpool. He has also attended various music teaching courses. He now combines his skills working part-time as a peripatetic brass tutor and his career in the construction industry.

Richard composes a lot of his own material and has impressed in several composition competitions, 'Stagbury Hill' reach the final shortlist of the Fodens Richardson Award for composition in 2004.

In 2006 Richard's composition 'A Fanfare for Gallantry' came runner-up and voted the audience's favourite in the Brighouse & Rastrick 125th Anniversary composition contest.

Being a brass band player his love of brass bands makes this his main interest but he constantly seeks to broaden his repertoire and musical knowledge for other ensembles.
